Not the most interesting subject, but it's one of the most important.
THE DATA YOU GENERATE IS THE RESULT OF TIME THAT YOU HAVE INVESTED.
It's important to not to fall into the mindset that the integrity of your data is someone else's responsibility. It isn't, and therefore you need to take action to ensure your files and data are safe.

Please note that although we have redundancy in place on our storage, we are not able to provide backup or restore services for your files. Please ensure you back up your data regularly to your own portable device, and make sure that you keep that device safe. We recommend at least two additional copies be made of your data, since so much time and effort goes into creating it.

You are permitted to use your own external storage devices in the Studios, however we cannot assume liability of any kind in regards to students own equipment. Also they should be USB powered, since you are unlikely to be able to always find a free power socket. Please do not unplug any existing equipment.
Portable devices should be formatted with the ExFat file system, this allows them to be used on Windows, Linux and MacOS systems.
To back up your data, you can copy and paste manually using the graphical user interface. There are also command line tools on both Linux (RSync) and Windows (Robocopy) that allow you to do a "differential" backup, where only changed or new files are copied. Use these with caution, since some options will delete files from the destination which may not be what you want.
